Ligue 2: Laval-GFCO Ajaccio

Hosts have targeted this game as their ”ace in the hole” for many weeks now and sitting just one point outside the drop zone and facing a never easy, regardless of circumstances, trip to Le Havre next week in their penultimate start, they had better win to keep survival matters in their own hands. The visitors have been relegated for several weeks , they lacked the resources both on and off the pitch to have any realistic chance of thriving at this level and have been further hindered by a poor disciplinary record and persecution complex, feeling that it was a case of ”little ” Gazelec against the rest of Ligue 2. They did win their last away game, a shock 2-0 defeat of Clermont, which was only their second victory in 2013 and first in 14 starts (0-2-11). They were immediate back to their old ways with a 3-1 ”home” defeat to a struggling Le Mans team, where they conceded three first half goals and then showed little desire or intent of getting back into the match and that was even before those discipline problems resurfaced and two players were dismissed with 20 minutes left to play, this season can clearly not end quickly enough for them.

That pair of defensive midfielders Loic Dufau (21 appearances-0 goals -0 assists) and Noui Laifa (32-4-1) are suspended today of course, Gazelec have pressed the self destruct button many times this season and if they end the match with eleven men today, given how committed the hosts will be, it would be something of a surprise.

Also missing are strikers Mickael Colloredo (29-4-5), Nicholas Verdier (23-4-1), Jean-Francois Riviere (15-1-2) and Harry Novillo (7-2-0) through injury, if we include Laifa, that is a combined 15 goals and 9 assists they are without, a lot of offence for a team who have only scored 31 goals all season.

Laval get right back Gaetan Belaud (30-0-3) back from a ban, but also lose two to suspension in striker Ghislain Gimbert (31-7-3) and centre back Jordan Adeoti (19-1-0), but have no new injuries and have options to replace the pair forced to sit out. Forwards Lebouc, Do Marcolino and Viale have plenty of goals between them and are hugely experienced at this level. Laval have looked a little better at times, at least on home soil, than the league table suggests (3-0 Dijon for example) and if they keep their cool, they should be able to win this comfortably enough with the visitors seemingly ”wanting” to punish themselves and self-implode. 1.5 units Laval -1 ball 2.03 asian line/Ibramarket.

Gazelec have tended to tire at the end of each half, conceding 28% (high) of all goals in the 15 minutes before the break and 25% after the 76th minute.
